The Punjab and Haryana high court on Wednesday stayed stage three of the Punjab Civil Services (executive) and allied services examination-2013, being conducted by Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC).

The HC order came on a bunch of petitions, wherein the petitioners had challenged the method adopted by the PPSC to prepare the result of the main examination, held in July this year, on the basis of which candidates have been called for interviews.

As part of stage three (the final one), the physical tests start on January 6, 2015, and the interviews are on January 8.

As per the petition, 213 candidates have been selected by the PPSC for stage three for 120 posts advertised.

The petitioners had approached the court, seeking directions to the PPSC that the result of the main examination be revised as per the circular of January 2014. The result was declared on December 8, 2014.

The petitioners had contended that the result had been prepared by the PPSC by awarding 33% marks as the minimum for each paper instead of ‘per subject’, which was the prescribed condition in the circular issued by the commission in January. They have also sought directions to the PPSC to prepare the result category-wise and then call candidates not less than three times in each category for stage three.

The PCS main exam consists of four subjects having seven papers: Punjabi (100 marks), English (100), essay (150) and general studies (250).

The government and the PPSC have to file a reply by the next date of hearing, January 6.
