Punjab CM hails officials for census surveys

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday felicitated the state’s workforce with the President’s Census Medal and certificates at a function here for their efforts in conducting field surveys for Census 2011.

He lauded their efforts and said that the state was fortunate that the Centre chose Punjabi University, Patiala, along with Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, as one of the workstations for processing and compiling data.

A population of 2.8 crore across 12,581 villages and 217 towns of the state was surveyed for the census.
