Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday directed Patiala divisional commissioner Ajit Singh Pannu to hold an inquiry into the alleged verbal spat involving Congress MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra and SDM Pooja Syal Grewal.
The development followed after the Punjab PCS Association met the chief minister in Chandigarh briefing him about the controversy.
The SDM also apprised the chief minister of the incident during the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Vidhan Sabha speaker directed the SDM to be present on September 24 to file a reply on the complaint lodged by Nagra on the alleged breach of privilege against her.
Nagra confirmed the development saying he had filed a complaint against her on September 16 for alleged breach of privilege.
Meanwhile, senior officials said there was “no breach of protocol” as alleged by Nagra. Officials said the meeting was convened with various market associations with regard to the anti-encroachment drive and the Congress MLA was “formally not invited but informed through a copy” about the meeting.
The officer said how could it be a violation of the protocol when they did not know whether the elected representative would come or not.
The officer said a letter had been sent to Nagra informing him about the meeting being held with various market associations related to the anti-encroachment drive.
He said if they had to invite the Congress MLA, they would have addressed the letter to him.
On the other hand, Nagra said if they did not invite him, why did they send him a letter. He said the contents of the letter were addressed to him and now the administrative officials were trying to misguide others.
Deputy commissioner Arun Sekhri was not available for comment.
Congress MLAs Sultanpur Lodhi, Navtej Singh Cheema and Khanna MLA, Gurkriat Singh Kotli condemned the statement of Akali stalwart, Prem Singh Chandumajra saying that he had forgotten the day when he used wrong words against the Congress stalwart, Ambika Soni during the election.
They also said that the congress is the party who always gives due respect to the women and it is wrong that the Congress MLA Kuljit Nagra used abusive language.
They also said that how could the Akali government forget that during Akali regime, various women protesters were thrashed and “humiliated”.
