Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president was livid over the suspension of party MLA Rana Gurjit Singh from the assembly on Wednesday and termed the speaker's decision biased, besides blaming revenue minister and SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia for the ruckus.
The principal opposition party has thus decided to boycott the rest of the winter session after speaker Charanjit Atwal suspended Rana till the conclusion of the five-day session on Friday.
Amarinder, who was not in the House on Wednesday, reacted to the suspension in a press statement, saying that it was actually the Youth Akali Dal president and revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia who should have faced action for using "unparliamentary" language against Rana Gurjit and Om Prakash Soni.
"He (Majithia) is (like the ruthless Mughal emperor) Aurangzeb in the making with all the attributes of a despot and dictator," Amarinder said, "cautioning" chief minister Parkash Singh Badal against the "arrogance" and "overriding ambition" of Majithia, who is the brother-in-law of Badal's son and deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal.
"I wish you (CM Badal) a long life to stay around for a long time. But the day you are not around, I am sure Bikram will take no time in usurping Sukhbir's position like Aurangzeb did to his own brothers and father."
He claimed that "Bikram is already onto it", as he was "grooming" criminal elements through the YAD and "his Bikram Sena".
Amarinder called it unfortunate that Atwal, despite having a long experience including five years in the Parliament as deputy speaker, "did not act in an impartial manner". The entire Congress, Amarinder stressed, would stand behind Rana Gurjit and had decided to boycott the rest of the session.
