Punjab finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa on Wednesday met Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee and dicussed a debt relief package for the state.
Dhindsa renewed Punjab's demand for including Punjab along with West Bengal and Kerala whenever a debt relief package is announced.
After meeting Mukherjee, Dhindsa told reporters, "We have requested the finance minister and it is under consideration. He (Mukherjee) has assured that if anything is done for other states, Punjab will be considered. All the three states are together in this. It is under consideration."
The Punjab minister also sought Union government's support for more funds under various central schemes to help reach out to the common man in the agrarian state.
Punjab has been pressing the Centre for not ignoring it while considering a debt relief package for West Bengal, a key UPA ally which has been pressing for the package soon.
Punjab alongwith Kerala and West Bengal have been recommended for a debt relief package by a committee of the Finance Commission sometime ago.
