Punjab government on Wednesday formed a Special Traffic Checking Wing to check operation of illegal route stage carriage buses and mini buses.

A number of private buses and mini buses operate in the state on routes earmarked for stage carriage buses under which
buses operate on different routes picking up passengers enroute, without taking permit for the same.

The teams of District Transport Officers (DTO) would not check buses in their districts, but would move to other
districts, an official spokesman said.

He said that as per the order issued by the State Transport Commissioner (STC), Punjab, the DTO of Amritsar would check illegal bus operation in Ludhiana district.

Similar non-home districts have been allotted to all the DTOs of the state, the spokesman said.

He said that officers deputed on duty would submit the special traffic checking report the next day at 11 a.m by fax
to Additional State Transport Commissioner, Punjab.
