Punjab government to empower self help groups to generate self-employment

Punjab government has chalked out a comprehensive plan to empower self help groups to generate self-employment opportunities for below poverty line (BPL) families in the state, said rural development and panchayat minister, Sikandar Singh Maluka, on Sunday.

Maluka said the rural development department would launch a drive to generate awareness among people about self-help groups and for this purpose NGOs, social workers and youngsters are being involved to educate the people regarding the new opportunity of self-employment.

He said setting up of the state rural livelihood mission society has been finalised and it would go into the details of the necessities of BPL families at grass root level and provide them credit and financial services inorder to give them a permanent source of income.
