Taking a dig at the SAD-BJP government in the state, Congress candidate from Anandpur Sahib constituency, Ambika Soni, accused the Punjab government of failing to check drug menace here on Thursday.

Addressing an election meeting at Bela village near here, she said Punjab was once known for being the food provider of the nation, but today, it was also known for the fact that 70% youth in the state consumed drugs, which was shameful for a state which was the land of gurus.

“Parents today are scared that their children might go down the wrong path. Youth are unemployed and are becoming addicted to drugs which are readily available across Punjab,” she said.

She further alleged that Punjab government had failed to provide employment to the youth. “The Congress party has promised that it will be our responsibility to generate 10 crore jobs for young men and women of the country. Also, my focus will be to create self-help groups which will help women generate additional income to cover expenses,” the candidate said.

Chamkaur Sahib member of legislative assembly (MLA) Charanjit Singh Channi also spoke on the ocacsion.
Soni later addressed public meetings at various other places in Chamkaur Sahib constituency, including Morinda, Amrali, Bhurare, Barsalpur, Boor Majra, Rangilpur and Behrampur Zimidari.
