Assuring total cooperation to Election Commission of India (ECI) in smooth conduct of elections in Haryana, Punjab chief secretary Sarvesh Kaushal on Tuesday said the official machinery in six neighboring districts of Haryana have been put on alert and 64 Nakas on border with Haryana would be sealed on the day of polling.
He said law and order machinery has been told to keep a check on inter-state border movement. He said the Punjab government has already declared dry day in vends of 3 km border belt with Haryana on the day of polling as well as counting. He said by a separate notification the Punjab government has also allowed paid leave to all those residents of Punjab who have vote in Haryana and want to cast their votes on October 15.
The ECI on Tuesday reviewed the law and order situation with neighboring states of Haryana keeping in view ensuing elections in Haryana on October 15.
According to spokesman, the chief electoral officer (CEO) reviewed the situation through video conferencing with the representatives of Punjab, UT of Delhi, Rajasthan, Himachal Pardesh, Uttrakhand and Haryana in which their respective chief secretaries, home secretaries, DGPS, ADGPS (Election) and representative of election commission shared notes on law and order situation in the border districts of Haryana.
In the meeting chief electoral officer VK Singh and additional chief electoral officer Raminder Singh, CSR Reddy, ADGP (Elections) also briefed the Commission.
