Maintaining that Punjab and Haryana are "jealous" of Himachal Pradesh, HP chief minister Virbhadra Singh on Wednesday said Himachal had got "unfriendly" neighbours.
Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the International Youth Peace Festival here, Singh said due to Himachal Pradesh's sacrifices, not just Punjab and Haryana, but the entire country had prospered.
"However, unfortunately, they (Punjab and Haryana) know how to take, but not how to give," Singh remarked, further claiming that Himachal had not got its due share from Punjab and Haryana in projects under the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).
He said due to the dams built in Himachal, irrigation facilities had been extended to various parts of Punjab and Haryana.
"For these dams, lakhs of people have got displaced. They have not got even proper compensation and terms on which they were ousted were not being followed. We are fighting for our rightful claims," the CM said.
He alleged that Himachal Pradesh's special category status was also terminated at the behest of Punjab and Haryana as they projected before the Centre that industries were leaving these states due to various sanctions being offered by the Himachal government under special category state status.
'Rape cases in Shimla unfortunate'
Terming the occurrence of two rape cases in Shimla as "unfortunate", the CM said the guilty would soon be brought to the book. "Rape incidents are happening in every society and state. These are two isolated cases and should not be linked to law and order," the CM said, maintaining that there was no deterioration in law and order in the state.
