The Punjab government has designated laboratories to check the quality of material used in the construction of its buildings.
Stating this here on Tuesday, minister for local bodies Anil Joshi added that the step would ensure that specifications were followed in all development work.
The laboratories of Punjab Engineering College (Chandigarh), Thapar University (Patiala), Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College (Ludhiana), Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (Amritsar), and Giani Zail Singh Engineering College (Bathinda) will do the task.
The Forest Research Organisation, Dehradun, and the government laboratory at Jagadhari will inspect wood work, while the Central Plastic Engineering Organisation (Amristar) facility will test plastic material. "A mobile laboratory will move out for surprise checking," said the minister.
