Punjab languages dept launches online Punjabi-English dictionary

Punjab education and languages minister Sikander Singh Maluka today launched an online Punjabi-English dictionary on the official website of the state languages department.

Speaking on the occasion, Maluka said Internet was the most powerful tool for promotion of any language or literature in present times as someone sitting anywhere in the world could get the required information by a mere click of a key.

Appreciating the efforts of the language department in putting the Punjabi-English dictionary on the official website, he pointed out that the administrative vocabulary put on the website by the department had proved quite beneficial for the people.

He said the department had also preserved more than 600 rare manuscripts and more than 100 rare books through digitalisation. The department was going to put Punjab-Hindi-Urdu dictionary and legal terminology on the departmental website www.pblanguages.govt.in soon.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion, languages department director Balbir Kaur said the department besides organising various programmes for the promotion of Punjabi language was also hosting literary functions with the cooperation of different organisations.

On this occasion, Maluka released two departmental survey books on Khatkar Kalan and Dholbaha.
