The Punjab Election Commission on Monday issued notification for holding elections to municipal councils, nagar panchayats and bypolls to certain wards of various urban local bodies. The elections will be held on June 7.
The model code of conduct came into effect immediately within the municipal limits from Monday.
The last date for making nominations would be May 24 and the date for the scrutiny of nominations has been fixed for May 26, an EC spokesperson said.
The last date for withdrawal of candidatures would be May 28.
Counting of votes would take place on June 10 and results will be announced on June 13, he said.
Bye-elections will be held in 24 wards of committees that have fallen vacant due to various reasons.
As the next session of the Punjab Assembly is scheduled for mid-June, the state government had recommended that the election process should be completed before the session.
