The Punjab government on Thursday offered direct grain supply, including wheat and rice, to Kerala, keeping the Food Corporation of India (FCI) out of the loop.

A delegation of the Kerala government led by its food minister Anoop Jacob had a detailed meeting with his Punjab counterpart Adesh Partap Singh Kairon here to identify areas where both states could work together and also thrash out a compatible solution to meet each others' food requirements, a spokesman said here.

Kairon, in his briefing to Jacob, said Punjab's experiment of introducing 40kg grain bags had been a great success and was also appreciated by the FCI.

The Punjab delegation would soon visit Kerala to work out the modalities for the proposed direct foodgrain supply as per the specifications and other requirements of that state, the spokesman added.
