A constable of Punjab Police on Monday was booked on the charges of outraging a woman's modesty in Zirakpur.
The cop, a resident of Zirakpur, was deployed at the Kharar police station. However, the accused cop has also filed a complaint against the victim's husband. The cop, in his complaint, alleged that the victim's husband manhandled him and disrespected his religion. The matter is under investigation now.
As per the reports, Jagtar Singhan, an auto driver, in his complaint, said he, along with his wife, had been returning home from Chandigarh. When they reached Zirakpur, a cop namely Mahinder Singh
had started teasing his wife.
When resisted, Jagtar was also manhandled by the cop. His wife also who came to rescue him. Few passersby gathered on the spot, following which Mahinder fled from the spot.
On the other hand, Mahinder also filed a complaint in which he alleged that Jagtar had been over charging from passengers. When objected, he enters into a scuffle. He alleged that Jagtar, accompanied by others, passed disrespectful remarks on Mahinder's religion.
The police said a case had been registered against Mahinder under sections 354A (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 323 (voluntarily cause hurt) of the Indian Penal Code. The police added that the complaint which was lodged by the cop was under investigation.
