The leader of opposition in state Assembly Sunil Jakhar on Saturday slammed the Punjab Police terming them as puppets of the SAD-BJP government for registering a "fake case" against Congress workers and son of the Guru Har Sahai MLA.

Jakhar condemned the police for registering the case against Anumeet Singh Hira Sodhi, son of Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi. He said the Punjab Police had proved that they had become puppets in the hands of the Akali government.

He said the government had crossed all limits in the local body elections by threatening the candidates of the Congress. He said the government had been trying to capture these elections by registering fake cases against the Congress workers and other candidates. He also said that goons of Akali government had been threatening even the family members of the Congress MLAs.

He warned the state government that in case they did not stop such acts, the entire opposition would give them a befitting reply by spreading awareness. He said the Congress would not allow the suppression of democratic principles. He appealed to the people to teach a lesson to the SAD-BJP alliance.
