Punjab reforms panel constitutes teams

The Punjab Governance Reforms Commission (PGRC) in its first meeting on Friday constituted task groups for different departments and services.
"An assessment of reforms implemented shall be made periodically," Dr Pramod Kumar, chairman of the PGRC, said after the meeting, which was also attended by the state chief secretary, Rakesh Singh.
KK Talwar, chairman, Medical Council of India, would chair the task group on health and medical education. Vini Mahajan, principal secretary, health, would function as member-secretary.
A task group to simplify norms and procedures for industrial development was also constituted. It would also suggest ways to simplify regulations, especially environmental laws, and suggest measures to promote and modernise traditional agro-based and modern industry in Punjab.
Vice-chairman of the Punjab State Planning Board, Rajinder Gupta, is the chairperson of this task group, which would have principal secretary AR Talwar as member-secretary.
A task group on police reforms would be chaired by former director general of police Dr AA Siddiqui, with ADGP SK Sharma as secretary.
Another task group to deal with grievances of NRIs was also formed. Supreme Court lawyer Anil Malhotra was appointed chairman of this group with commissioner, NRI affairs, Vikas Pratap, as the secretary.
