Having swayed India by her moves, differently-abled dancer Shubhreet Kaur Ghumman (28) has now danced her way into the new phase of her life. The India’s Got Talent season 5 contestant recently tied the knot with her Chandigarh based beau, Yash Makkar (27).

The friends-turned-lovers, who met through common friends in 2012, tied the knot at Shubhreet’s native village in Malerkotla on June 6. The couple got engaged on May 23.

“We met through common friends and slowly started falling in love. He is really supportive, and my mother likes him,” an excited Shubhreet, who is at present in Sangrur, told HT City over the phone.

Initially, the couple had a tough time convincing Makkar’s family but they remained steadfast and the family finally relented.

“They are happy now and have accepted her completely,” says an elated Makkar, who owns a gym in Mohali.

Asked about their new life together, Shubhreet said, “I am really happy to be married,” while a shy Yash replied, “It’s only been six days, what can I say?”

Asked what he liked best about his bride, he said, “She is hardworking and not dependent on anyone and then it’s all about love.”

Shubhreet, who shot to fame through reality show India’s Got Talent-5, would soon be making a debut in Pollywood. The couple said their families have no objection if she continues to work on television and in films.
