Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh on Wednesday took on Punjab government for blaming Himachal Pradesh for growing drug menace in Punjab. "It is no secret that drug trade which has ruined one generation is flourishing in Punjab and even the names of ministers are being mentioned in the racket," the chief minister said. "As per our knowledge, no pharmaceutical unit in Himachal was manufacturing drugs and in case any unit is found indulging an illegal act, it would not only face strict action but also (would be) closed down immediately," he said. The chief minister said the Punjab government was trying to shift the responsibility by blaming Himachal Pradesh in the issue. "Punjab?should better set its own house in order as? everybody knows that drugs peddling is going on in Punjab?in an organised way with the involvement of some influential people," he said. Singh's remarks came after former IPS officer Kiran Bedi and some Punjab leaders at an event had said recently that drugs are manufactured in Himachal Pradesh. "Political leaders especially need to work to deal with the drug menace. Drug tablets are manufactured in Himachal Pradesh and supplied everywhere from there. Why don't the Himachal Pradesh government close such factories," Bedi had said.
