The Punjab government has decided to integrate all its departments with the countrywide ‘Mobile Seva’ scheme to offer public services through mobile channels such as short messaging service (SMS), integrated voice response system (IVRS), unstructured supplementary service data, and mobile-phone applications.

Disclosing this on Sunday, an official spokesperson said already five state departments had integrated their services, the details of which were available under the ‘Department Service’ tab on www.mgov.gov. in. He said that to encourage early adoption, the SMS-based services would be offered free of cost to the government departments.

The Union government initiative aims at mainstreaming mobile governance in the country. The government departments and agencies at central, state and local levels touch more than 120 crore citizens. ‘Mobile Seva’ will bring these on to a common platform to reach more than 90 crore users of mobile communication devices in the country.
