The Punjab transport department has decided to issue provisional registration certificates in place of temporary RCs after the Supreme Court orders that no new vehicles is to be delivered without the high-security registration plates.

Punjab transport minister Ajit Singh Kohar said here on Saturday that instructions had reached all district transport officers (DTOs) in the state. The provisional RC will indicate a regular number allotted through the online system.

The temporary RCs will be issued to only the residents of the other states on their buying vehicles in Punjab. The dealer concerned will issue this temporary certificate.

The provisional RC will have 30-day validity and the fee for it will be half that of regular RC. Vehicle owners looking for fancy registration numbers will have to secure those before purchasing the vehicle, and get the provisional RC on showing the authority letter of the DTO concerned.
