The Punjab government on Monday decided to place SAS Nagar DSP Raka Ghirra under suspension a day after the CBI caught her accepting bribe from a Mohali-based property dealer at her house in Chandigarh.

Principal secretary, home affairs and justice, DS Bains said he had received a formal communique from the CBI about the case.

"On the basis of the FIR registered against the DSP and her two-day CBI remand, the government has decided to place her under suspension. We will issue the formal orders on Tuesday," said Bains.

Meanwhile, it is not for the first time when Ghirra has found herself on the wrong side of law. In 2004-2005, when she was posted as inspector at Fatehgarh Sahib, she allegedly used her connections with senior police officials to get appointment as an SHO.

Soon she was allegedly found indulging in unlawful and corrupt practices. As a result, in her ACR, the then SSP said Ghirra was low on integrity as she indulged in malpractices. Her promotion to the rank of the DSP was withheld for a long time following her poor ACR.
