Noted Punjabi folk singer Karnail Gill passed away at his native village Jamalpur in Ludhiana after a prolonged illness yesterday.
Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal Monday expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of the singer.
In the condolence message, the chief minister described Gill as a 'legendary Punjabi folk singer', who regaled the millions of Punjabi music lovers with his melodious voice. He said Gill's death has created a void in the arena of Punjabi folk music, which would be difficult to be filled in the near future.
Gill would always remain a heartthrob through his enchanting songs amongst his fans. He was instrumental in giving a new dimension to the duet Punjabi singing, Mr Badal added.
Sharing his heart-felt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family, the chief minister prayed to the Almighty to give them courage and strength to bear this irreparable loss and grant peace to the departed soul.
