Panjab University Student Council Union (PUSCU) president Chandan Rana and NSUI president Manoj Lubana submitted a letter to Chandigarh member of parliament (MP) Pawan Kumar Bansal to sanction funds for the construction of common reading hall from Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds.

Students said the minister had agreed to fulfill their long-pending demand for the construction of a common reading hall for girls in the area near the girls' hostel and an extra shop at the student centre.

Chandan Rana said, “Over 9,000 girls are studying in the Panjab University out of which 3,200 girls stay in the girl hostels. The girls don't have a common reading hall to study during the night-time.” Manoj Lubana also said this initiative towards the welfare of girls at the time when our society was facing a big curse of crime against women would be appreciated.
