Quality compromises in link road projects: CM
The road-building authorities have ignored planning, design and quality control in the link-road projects, leading to repeated repair and the wastage of money, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has said here on Saturday.
Stressing the need for strengthening the rural road network, the CM asked state government road adviser major general MS Pillai (retd) to adhere to concept, design, and maintain the quality of construction. He was at a meeting where chief engineers of the public works department (PWD), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Punjab Mandi Board, and Border Roads Organisation (BRO) were present.
A government spokesperson said here later that Badal had told major general Pillai to formulate a master plan for periodic maintenance of about 60,000 kilometres of the state road network. He also wanted optimum use of the road-building material and curbs on exaggerated cost estimates.
The CM asked the roads advisers to prepare a proposal for seeking central assistance for upgrading the link roads to national highways. He said he meet union defence minister Arun Jaitley to seek special grants for the repair and upgrading of the border roads.
