Rail traffic disrupted in Kathua

chandigarh Updated: Apr 03, 2012 16:06 IST

Members of BJP Kisan Morcha today disrupted train service at Kathua railway station for 25 minutes as they protested against the UPA government for its anti-farmer policy.

Led by BJP state Kisan Morcha president Karan Singh nearly 200 activists assembled at Kathua railway station about 85 km from Jammu and stopped two trains - Swaraj Express (Jammu-Mumbai) and Tata Moori (Tata Nagar to Jammu) for about 25 minutes before police rushed to the spot and dispersed the protestors from tracks.

Talking to reporters, Singh said the UPA government has failed to implement the MS Swaminathan committee constituted during the NDA rule led by Atal Behari Vajpayee.

"We demanded that farmers should be given bonus of Rs 500 per quintal on wheat," he said.
