Rain and high-velocity winds have damaged the wheat crop in several areas of Punjab in the past 24 hours.
The weather conditions are expected to continue and the meteorological department has issued a warning that hailstorms and thunder squalls with wind speed exceeding 45km/h may occur in isolated places in Punjab and Haryana.
Jagraj Singh Dhaliwal, a farmer based in Rauke Kalan village of Moga, said, "Fast winds not only damaged the crop, but also delayed harvesting."
Meanwhile, thoughthe weather being overcast, daytime temperatures was above normal in most areas of Punjab. "It happened due to western disturbances over Jammu and Kashmir," said Surender Paul, director of the meteorological centre in Chandigarh.
