The monsoon showers brought considerable relief from the unbearable heat wave for residents on Thursday.
The meteorological centre, Chandigarh, recorded 5 mm of rainfall till 5.30pm. Adjoining areas in SAS Nagar and Panchkula also saw light rain.
According to the regional meteorolo gical centre, Chandigarh, the minimum temperature, too, decreased by five notches and was recorded at 28.4°C. The maximum temperature remained at 33.2°C.
In its forecast, the Met department has predicted generally cloudy sky with rain for next two days. “Moderate rain or thundershowers will occur in the tricity. Heavy rains are also predicted in the next 48 hours. Rainfall activity will decrease afterwards,” the Met bulletin said.
The maximum temperature would be around 33°C, while the minimum temperature would be around 25°Celsius, the department said. Similar weather has been predicted for Punjab and Haryana also. In Haryana, Bhiwani and Hisar were the hottest cities with 37°C and 36.7°C, respectively.
