The floods in Punjab worsened on Friday while the situation improved in parts of the three affected districts of Haryana.

The floods in Punjab worsened on Friday while the situation improved in parts of the three affected districts of Haryana.

In Punjab, the floods have claimed 22 lives in the past four days, with seven deaths being reported on Friday.

Thousands of acres of agricultural land were submerged. Punjab Chief Secretary S.C. Agrawal who held a meeting with Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal to take stock of the flood situation in the state said six districts of Punjab, including SAS Nagar, Patiala, Ludhiana, Rupnagar, Fatehgarh Sahib and Sangrur have been badly affected due to incessant rains over the past four days.

Agrawal said the state’s irrigation department had so far identified 30 breaches in the distributaries of the Ghaggar River caused due to heavy flooding of water in the six districts.
