The Punjab government on Friday appointed senior BJP leader Rajinder Bhandari as the second vice-chairman of the Punjab State Planning Board.
Bhandari would join Rajinder Gupta, who already held the post of vice-chairman of the board that is chaired by chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.
Bhandari had earlier served as the board's vice-chairman for two years (2011-12). The CM cleared his file for the second term, a spokesman said here.
"He (as the vice-chairman earlier) played an instrumental role in strengthening the planning process in the state, besides initiating schemes and projects for overall development of the state and welfare of the people," the spokesman said.
Bhandari, a senior BJP leader and former MLA, had lost the 2012 assembly polls from Ludhiana.
