The Punjab government has given the additional charge of Punjab Technical University (PTU) vice-chancellor to the secretary, technical education, Rakesh Verma.
A decision in this regard was taken by the government on Wednesday. It may be mentioned here that the state government had failed to constitute the new board of governors (BoG) for PTU, due to which the appointment of new vice-chancellor has been delayed. Even after the expiry of the second term on December 23, the VC Rajnish Arora was continuing raising many a eyebrows. In an apparent move to end the controversy, the government issued orders giving additional charge to Verma. Significantly, the term of BoG ended on September 28 last year and so far the government has failed to notify the new BoG. Sources said Governor has also give nod to the formation of BoG as well.
Even as the technical education minister Madan Mohan Mittal had repeatedly maintained that Arora would continue till the varsity get the new VC, questions were raised as how the varsity would function in such a scenario, when there is no authorized VC and no BoG to check any functioning.
