Rashly driven vehicle claims motorcyclist’s life near golf club

A 45-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run case after an unidentified vehicle hit his motorcycle near the Chandigarh golf club on Monday night.

The victim, Lakshman Dass, was a resident of Nayagaon and worked at a petrol pump in Manimajra. Police said Dass was on the way home from Panchkula.

As he reached near the golf club, a rashly driven vehicle hit his motorcycle, leaving him seriously injured.

Onlookers sounded the police who rushed Dass to Government Multi Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, where he was declared brought dead.

Sector 3 SHO Harjeet Kaur said no one could make note of the vehicle that hit Dass, but they had registered a case against its unidentified driver under Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and efforts were on to trace the vehicle.

She said the body was hand-ed over to the family after autopsy.

The deceased is survived by his wife and son.
