A Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) field officer, along with his three colleagues, was arrested red-handed taking a Rs 50,000 bribe from an employee of the power development department in the border town of RS Pura late Thursday evening.
A CBI official said that field officer Dinesh Koul had been demanding Rs 1.20 lakh from the PDD employee, a local youth, threatening to use information gathered about him to tarnish his image.
The local youth, whose identity has been kept secret, on being consistently threatened by RAW officials lodged a formal complaint with the CBI. He had also complained that the official threatened him with dire consequences.
On Thursday evening, the youth agreed to give Rs 50,000 and asked the official along with his colleagues to meet at fast food joint at Kotli Mian Fateh. He had tipped the CBI about it. Field officer Koul and his colleagues Sahdev Singh, Vijay Sharma and Rinku were arrested while accepting money.
The CBI, it had received complaints that RAW officials had also blackmailed other people of the area. RAW is the external intelligence agency of the country. The CBI said more arrests were likely to take place and it's in the process of exposing the entire racket.
