Chief minister Virbhadra Singh on Monday launched a redesigned website of the information and public relations department at his official residence here. Singh said the website, which had been made 'hacking-proof', contained advanced security features. A Pakistan-based group had hacked the website in 2013.

Acknowledging the role of media in maintaining public relations, the chief minister said the media had played an important role in disseminating the policies and programmes of the government and had bridged the gap between the citizens and the government.

He said, "Critical analyses by the media help the government in modifying its decisions for successfully implementing its policies. The government takes the media's criticism positively and not in bad taste." He hoped that the media would continue to highlight issues of public interest from time to time which would eventually benefit the people of the state.

Information and public relations minister Mukesh Agnihotri said the social media had played a vital role in shaping the society. He said in today's era, social media was fast expanding and the department's website had been designed to meet the needs of the print and the electronic media.

"To make publicity more effective, a multimedia exhibition van costing Rs 20 lakh would soon be made available to the department," he said. He added that the website would contain all security guidelines of the union ministry of information technology.

According to official sources, the information on the website had been segregated and provided through more than 25 hyperlinks. Besides the chief minister's speeches, several press releases and photographs would be available on the website through separate hyperlinks.
