Coming to the aid of members of the National Consumer Awareness Group Society, permanent lok adalat (public utility services), here, has directed the governing body of the society to reimburse money of its members after selling the land bought by the society for construction of flats.

The members of the society had moved an application against chairman of the society Lt Col PJS Mehta before the permanent lok adalat, here.

The members have alleged that Mehta had received various amounts ranging from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh from each of 585 members promising to purchase land and construct flats thereon for allotting to them.

The 16-acre land at Sector-91 (Chapparcheri village) was purchased, but no flats have been constructed so far.

The members had since been demanding the refund of the amount by the sale of the land but no action was taken thereon. The petitioners claimed that general body meeting was convened thrice by the members in which it was decided that the land should be sold and the amount be distributed among its members, but the same has not been done so far.

Mehta in his reply submitted that the money of the stakeholders would be refunded to the members alongwith interest whenever the land is sold. Mehta did not give any specific date till when the land would be sold.

Permanent lok adalat, presided over by Jagroop Singh Mahal on Saturday, directed the society to hold elections, which had not been held since 2005, though the term of the governing body was only three years and directed the society to sell the land and distribute the amount amongst its members.
