A rebel member of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) from Haryana, Bhupinder Singh Assandh, on Monday demanded immediate repatriation of all Punjabi SGPC employees from Haryana gurdwaras.
“Youths of Haryana are always ignored in SGPC jobs and I strongly demand that once the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) takes over, all employees from Punjab be sent back. If the Haryana men working with the religious body in Punjab want to work in their home state, they should be welcomed,” said Assandh, who is tipped to be a member of the new Sikh panel.
Assandh was elected SGPC member from Karnal in 2009 and he was the senior vice-president of Shiromani Akali Dal’s Haryana unit. He had recently quit the party to support an independent Sikh panel.
In an attack on Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, Assandh alleged that SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar was allowing the assembly of drug addicts at historic shrines of Haryana.
“Badal te Makkar ne saare nashedi bande bitha ditte ne Guru ghar wich. Eh lok Haryane da mahaul kharab kar rahe han,” he alleged, while demanding the immediate release of Sikh shrines from the clutches of these people.
