The police have arrested the first wife of retired Border Security Force (BSF) inspector, who was shot dead recently, for hiring killers to eliminate her husband. She allegedly paid Rs 1 lakh as advance money to the contract killers, who are now in police custody, for the job.

Maqsudan station house officer Jaimal Singh said that Surjit Kaur, first wife of the victim Daljeet Singh Multani, has been arrested while her non-resident Indian son Manmhohan Singh has been booked for conspiring to kill his father.

"Manmohan had come to India in July this year and he, along with his mother, hatched a conspiracy to kill Multani over some property dispute," said the SHO.

The police investigations revealed that Kaur first took Ranjit Singh alias Vicki (33) of Shahbajpur in Hoshiarpur district in confidence. She knew Vicki as he was tilling about seven acres of land reportedly owned by Manmohan. The dispute between Multani and Kaur was that Vicki was paying rent to Kaur and Multani wanted that the rent should be paid to him.

"Vicky was already angry with Multani because the latter allegedly had threatened him of dire consequences if he didn't start paying him the land rent. Multani allegedly also used vulgar language with Vicky's wife over phone. These were the reasons that Vicki readily agreed to eliminate Multani," revealed investigations.

"The deal to eliminate Multani was finalised for Rs 6 lakh and Kaur paid Rs 1 lakh as advance money, while the remaining sum was to be paid after the job," said SHO.

Police had already arrested Vicky and Ravinder Pal Singh alias Judge (40) from Moolak Khurd in Tanda. Vicky was tilling about 7 acres of land reportedly owned by Manmohan Singh. Earlier, Vicky used to pay Rs 1.20 lakh as annual rent to Multani. But for past six years, he was paying Rs 1.52 lakh annual rent to Kaur instead.

One of the accused Satinder Singh alias Sonu (40) of Moolak Kalan in Hoshiarpur district was still absconding.

On August 18, Ranjit Singh made a call to Multani, a property businessman, and asked him to come to a place on the pretext of of finalising a deal of a building purchase. Ranjit shot the victim dead from point blank range while he was standing outside his Maruti Suzuki Alto car alongside the road.
