The residents of Haibowal can expect a relief from unscheduled power cuts due to faulty wiring or trans-formers in the coming days, as the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has planned to increase the capacity of Balloke power station.

Balloke power station caters electricity supply to the densely-populated area of Haibowal. This area had been facing major power supply glitches because of overloading and poor wiring.

On Saturday night also, the transformer caught fire in Joshi Nagar area of Haibowal. The residents complained to the PSPCL, but no one picked the call, and then they had to call at the Patiala centre’s helpline number to find a solution.

The residents blamed the department for not providing regular electricity supply to the area.

PSPCL central zone chief engineer Rashpal Singh said, “At present, the Balloke power station has 20 megavolt amperes (mva) capacity, but now 20 mva more will be added to the power station. With this, the problem of Haibowal area could be resolved to much extent, as the area has large number of people living and it remains overloaded most of the time.”

He assured that this would be done in a day or two.
