The heavy downpour on Thursday morning caved in the dividing road of Sector 16/17, besides damaging other roads of the city.
After receiving the information, local MLA Gian Chand Gupta rushed to the spot and spoke to HUDA officials who assured him of repairing the road at the earliest. HUDA executive engineer Preet Mohan said the road was closed for commuters to avoid any mishap and was later repaired.
The rain caused a double trouble as condition of various roads turned from bad to worse. The potholes on roads made life difficult for the commuters. The rain also damaged some of the recently repaired roads in Sector 6, Industrial Area, Sector 19 among others.
Almost all roads of the city need repair and the project of recarpeting the roads was inaugurated by Panchkula legislator Gian Chand Gupta on March 23. However, it has been more than two months, but the work allocated in the first phase is yet see the light of day.
The situation of internal roads in the Industrial Area of Phase 1 and Phase 2 is worst. The civic body had sanctioned a budget of around Rs 35 crore for the work, of which three tenders worth around Rs 16 crore were allocated in the first phase.
Ravi Kant Swami, councillor of Industrial Area, demanded that all the roads should be carpeted at earliest as damaged roads pose threat to life of city residents.
Rain water enters several homes
The rain water entered several homes in Sector 19. Vinod Kumar Sharma, a resident of Sector 19, said water entered into around 50 houses of the area.Sharma, who is working with a private company, stated that they had written to HUDA on several occasion to resolve this problem, but all in vain. “This is a common scene in the area during the monsoon. There is no proper drainage system,” added Sharma.
