Road race, roller hockey mark Day 2 of skating tourney

In the ongoing 60th Punjab School State Roller Skating Championship, road race and roller hockey events were the major attractions here at skating rink, Sarabha Nagar on Monday.

As many as 300 players from 14 districts are participating in the three-daychampionship.

In the boys category (under-11), Manavjot from Sangrur bagged the first position in 1500 meters while Hardik and Shubhpreet secured second and third places respectively.

In the girls category (under-11), Arshpreet from Sangrur clinched the first spot while Amrita (SAS Nagar) and Itanya from host city claimed second and third places respectively.

In the boys under-14 age group, Rahul Rai from Amritsar won the first position while Utkarsh (Ludhiana) and Gurjot (Amritsar) bagged second and third positions respectively. In girls category, Ashveen from Patiala capitalising on the initial momentum earned the first place without any difficulty while Saruchi Garg (Ludhiana) Simrat Deep (Amritsar) could only manage second and third place.

A neck-to-neck competition for the first place in the 3000 road race event (u-19) between Anmol and Aksh both from Amritsar made everyone curious which eventually was won by the former by a narrow margin, Kanwardeep from Sangrur secured the third position.

In the under-17 boys’ category, Bhavdeep and Harmandeep secured first and second spot respectively in the 3,000m road race while Jashanpreet from Patiala came third.

In the roller hockey event, the hosts made it seemed like a cake walk in a match against Amritsar winning it by 2-0 goals. Sangrur was well placed by scoring three goals and restricting its opponent Patiala to a nil till the end of the first half.
