Intensifying his election campaign, Shiormani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate from Anandpur Sahib constituency, Prem Singh Chandumajra, organised a road show in Anandpur Sahib on Tuesday.
Hundreds of SAD and Bharatiya Janata Party workers, sitting in vehicles and on two-wheelers, participated in the road show.
While addressing a gathering, Chandumajra said scarcity of sand and gravel occurred due to the wrong policies of the Congress-led government at the Centre.
He alleged that the central government had created the crisis of sand and gravel in Punjab by ensuring the closure of stone crushers and mining sites by delaying the environment clearances.
"Punjab government has repeatedly taken up the matter with the union environment ministry but the problem has not yet resolved."
Chandumajra added that after the Punjab CM had taken up the matter with the Prime Minister, the central government had given environment clearance for some mining sites and stone crushers for some time. However, due to gap in demand and supply, the rates of sand and gravel had started rising, he maintained.
Chandumajra said after the formation of Narendra Modi government in Centre he would get the amendments made in the environment laws to solve the problem permanently.
He alleged that the Congress leaders had been misleading the people over the issue. While speaking on the occasion, BJP leader Arvind Mittal alleged that the Congress had ignored Anandpur Sahib. He claimed that Chandumjra would win by a huge margin in the elections. Chandumajra also addressed rallies at Paharpur and Bela Ramgarh villages.
