A 20-year-old speech and hearing impaired inmate, who was shifted to Bhiwani from a Rohtak shelter home that is already under the scanner for sexual abuse, was reported six months pregnant on Wednesday.
The inmate, who was brought to Swadhar, the shelter home in Bhiwani, a week ago, fell unconscious on Wednesday. She was taken to the Bhiwani Civil Hospital where doctors revealed she was six months pregnant.
Vikas Dhankhar, the officiating superintendent of police in Rohtak, told Hindustan Times that the pregnancy was reported when the inmate was examined at the hospital in Bhiwani.
Incidentally, the inmate's pregnancy was not reported when she was examined at the Rohtak Civil Hospital on May 11. The police had sent her there along with other inmates of the 'Apna Ghar' (shelter home) in Rohtak after allegations of sexual abuse surfaced.
The Rohtak shelter home has been in the thick of controversy for the past few weeks over sexual abuse of its inmates by the caretakers.
