In a letter to the vice-chancellor's office, the chairperson of the University Business School (UBS) has demanded stern action against one of the faculty members for his alleged misbehaviour else to consider the document as his resignation letter from the post of chairperson.

Chairperson Prof AK Vashisht had given a written complaint against Prof BB Goyal, a faculty member at UBS. Vashisht alleged that Goyal misbehaved with him during a staff meeting held on Wednesday.

Sources said a staff meeting was under progress when the chairperson, who was heading the meeting, remarked that there were many faculty members who were not taking classes and thus students were being made to suffer. This provoked Goyal who entered into a verbal duel with the chairperson. Besides allegedly abusing him, Goyal also accused the chairperson of shielding a few of the faculty members. The entire episode was witnessed by both senior and junior faculty members.

Goyal is reportedly not on good terms with the chairperson as his matter pertaining to promotion is pending for quiet sometime now.

Following this, the chairperson shot a letter to the V-C office demanding action into the incident and the same was later marked to Dean University Instructions (DUI) Prof RK Kohli.

It has been learnt that while the faculty members were involved in verbal argument with each other, the placements in the department were on and visiting companies were in the department.

Though Vashisht confirmed that he had sent a letter against Goyal to the V-C office, he refused to comment further.

Meanwhile, Goyal said it was just an argument between him and the chairperson.

Talking of HT, Goyal said "All I said was that those be individually summoned who do not attend classes, why disturb everyone's schedule. I was taking an oral viva exam, which was scheduled for past two months and attending such meeting was a waste of time. If the chairperson wants to quit, he is more than welcome".

He also pointed out there was a lot of corruption going on in the department and said, "There are projects which come to the department, but rather than sending them to the committee they are individually assigned to specific faculty member."

Meanwhile, Kohli had sent a letter asking the UBS chairperson, former chairperson and BB Goyal to meet him in the matter.

Though the faculty at UBS was not happy with this decision, said enquiry should had been made in the matter rather than calling everyone together for a meeting.

While talking to HT, DUI Kohli said, "We called both chairperson and the faculty member. The issue was discussed in detail and both were satisfied with the meeting. I have nothing more to say on the issue."

Not the first time

This is not the first time that Goyal has come in the limelight for wrong reasons. In April, he had a similar showdown with then chairperson Prof Meenakshi Malhotra. Reportedly, Malhotra had also tendered her resignation which though was not accepted by then V-C Prof RC Sobti.

Goyal had also protested outside the V-C office with his wife and daughter, demanding promotion. He had threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike. His matter of promotion will come up for hearing in the syndicate scheduled for December 15.
