Two armed men in their late 20s robbed Rs 11 lakh from a liquor vend in Sector 70, here, on Saturday past midnight and escaped in the cash collection vehicle, a Bolero Camper, of the syndicate of vend owners. The vehicle was later found parked near The British School, Sector 70, at a distance of about 500 metre from the looted vend, opposite the taxi stand.
An employee of the vend, Ravi Kumar, was injured in the attack. "After collecting the daily income from 15 liquor vends, the vehicle came for collection at our shop. I came out to hand over the day's collection of Rs 1.07 lakh, when one of the miscreants attacked me with a beer bottle. The other miscreant trained a gun on the driver of the collection vehicle and asked him to come out," Kumar said.
The money was collected from a syndicate of liquor vend owners. Lovely Sandhu, the owner of the liquor vend, said, "My shop was the last collection point of the day and more than `11 lakh were robbed."
Senior police officers along with finger print experts inspected the scene. A Chandigarh Police team also reached the spot. Sources said that there were some similarities in the modus operandi of the robbery to the one carried out on July 13 at a jeweller's shop in Mansa Devi Complex, Sector 5, where `50 lakh were looted.
