About Rs 2 crore has been spent on SAS Nagar district during the year under the Supplementary Nutrition Scheme for providing nutritional diet to the lactating mother and new born children, a statement by deputy commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said.
The statement further read there were 614 anganwari centres in the district wherein 22 supervisors were working.
The district was providing nutritious diet to nearly 24,000 children between the age group of 6 months and 6 years through these anganwari centres. A review meeting was held following which the statement was released, saying that these centres generated awareness among nursing mothers for nutrition.
The statement read that under the Mata Kaushalya Scheme, a financial assistance of Rs 1000 was being provided to the pregnant mothers after delivery in government hospitals.
