Four men allegedly assaulted a milk vendor and snatched his bag containing Rs 40,000 at the Sector-17 bus stop on Friday.

In his complaint, the victim, Dharam Narayan Tiwari, a resident of Rajiv Colony in Sector 17, said he worked as a milk vendor in Sector 20 here.

He said on Friday, he received lesser milk supply from the milk firm. Therefore, he decided to visit SAS Nagar and lodge a complaint. He also took along the day's collection of Rs 40,000 to be submitted with the firm.

"On routine days, he deposits the money in a Sector 10 bank. But as he was going to SAS Nagar, he thought of handing over the amount directly," said inspector Kamaljeet Singh, station house officer (SHO) of Sector 14 police station.

Therefore, Tiwari and his friend took an auto-rickshaw till the roundabout of Sector 16/17 and then walked up to the bus stop of Sector 17. While they were waiting, four men reached the spot in a grey Tata Indica. They got down and started beating him and his friend, and snatched his bag before fleeing the spot.

"We have registered a case under section 379 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The accused could be from Rajiv Colony and seemed to be aware of the fact that Tiwari deposited cash daily," the SHO said.
