SAD sweeps Dera Bassi, Zirakpur

The elections for the top posts of the municipal councils and nagar panchayats of Zirakpur, Dera Bassi, Lalru and Banur were held on Monday. It may be mentioned that the recent civic body polls were completely swept by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the district.

The elections for the top posts of the municipal councils and nagar panchayats of Zirakpur, Dera Bassi, Lalru and Banur were held on Monday.

It may be mentioned that the recent civic body polls were completely swept by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the district.

In Dera Bassi, Bhupinder Saini of SAD from Ward number 9 was elected president. Mukesh Rana of SAD from ward number 1 senior vice-president and Harjinder Singh Rangi (SAD) of ward number 12 was elected vice-president.

In Zirakpur, Kulwinder Singh Sohi of SAD, who contested from ward number 30, was elected president, while Parmjit Kaur Sodhi, SAD representative from ward number 13, was elected senior vice-president. Nachatar Singh of the BJP, who contested from ward number 24, was elected vice-president.

In Lalru nagar panchayat, Bullu Rana of SAD from ward number 15 was elected president, while Mukesh Rana ( Shiromani Akali Dal ) from ward number 5 vice-president.

In Banur municipal council, SAS Nagar sub-divisional magistrate Lakhmir Singh administered oath to all 13 councillors.

Nirmaljit Singh, 34, who contested Independent candidate from ward number 8 was declared president. He bagged seven votes. Amandeep Singh of Shiromani Akali Dal, who contested from ward number 9, was unanimously elected vice-president. An agriculturist, Singh contested the elections for the first time.
