Sarabjit not our brother, says Ludhiana woman's sibling

Baljinder Kaur, who runs a school at New Moti Nagar here, had claimed that she was the real sister of Sarbjit Singh, while Dalbir Kaur, who had led the battle for his release, was a fake. She had also organised Sarabjit's bhog attended in a gurdwara here by his siblings and close relatives only.
Charanjit Singh, her sibling, has now said that Sarabjit had nothing to do with the family and he was not even the son his father had given up for adoption. "Baljinder has no documents to prove that Sarabjit was our brother," he said here.
Baljinder Kaur had also said her father, Mehnga Singh, was bus driver and the family had migrated from Mathura. "Sulakhan Singh, a friend of my father, adopted Sarabjit Singh and brought him to Bhikhiwind. Sarabjit kept meeting us regularly even when the family moved to Janta Nagar in Ludhiana in 1987," she had said.
Charanjit, however, said Baljinder was only taking advantage of the situation. "I possess a ration card in which there is no name of Sarabjit," said Charanjit. Baljinder said: "If Sarbjit was not our real brother, why did Charanjit attend his cremation and bhog? Sarabjit's name could not have been on the ration card, as it was made in Janata Nagar when Sarabjit did not live with the family."
The man once convicted of planting bombs in Pakistan and put on death row in that country is long gone. The questions about his family now refuse to die.
