The Punjab government has enhanced the honorarium of education providers working under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) by Rs 1,000 per month with effect from September 1.
Education minister Sikander Singh Maluka said here that this decision had been implemented in view of a meeting between chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and the education providers in June, when the CM had assured them a hike of Rs 1,000 per month in their honorarium.
Graduate education providers, pursuing teaching in villages, would now get Rs 7,500; BA, Bed, Rs 8,250; and postgraduate teachers, Rs 9,000 under the SSA.
This hike would put an additional burden of Rs 4.88 crore on the state exchequer.
The minister said the case related to the payment of outstanding arrears since April 1, 2012, was being sent to the finance department.
