The police said it had established a link with a narcotics racket operating in Tarn Taran after a notorious drug peddler, Balbir Singh alias Balla, was arrested in SAS Nagar with 150 grams of heroin on Monday.
It added during his interrogation the accused claimed the heroin had been supplied by Vicky, a resident of that town, adding details of phone calls between Vicky and Balbir indicated they communicated frequently.
Sources in the police said in the course of investig ations Balbir had revealed the names of two other suspects to whom he regularly delivered packets of heroin.
However, the cops have yet to disclose their identities, saying this could adversely affect the probe. Balbir told the police this was the fourth time he was delivering heroin in SAS Nagar and in Chandigarh.
He claimed he never met Vicky in Tarn Taran but always received instructions over the phone as to the locations where the drugs had to be picked up delivered, adding the quantity every time was 150 grams.
He said he got Rs 5,000 per delivery, which was paid after the drugs were handed over to the designated person at the assigned place. The police said they were now trying to trace the phone calls made on Balla’s phone.
Station house officer of Phase 1 police station, SAS Nagar, Rajiv Kumar said, “We’re now trying to corroborate the infor mation provided by Ball a during his interrogation. ” Meanwhile, the cops produced the accused in a local court, which extended his police remand for another two days.
